Swim for Life® flows seamlessly into the Society's lifesaving and vocational training awards, providing a complete, coherent, single-source program of integrated swimming and lifesaving instruction.
Water Smart® education is an integral part of Swim for Life® and provides information and experiences that help participants make smart decisions in, on, and around water and ice. Appropriate water safety messages, based on the learning from our drowning research, target Swim for Life participants at each level.

The Lifesaving Society Parent & Tot program is for children ages 1-3 which structures in-water interaction between parent and child to stress the importance of play developing water-positive attitudes and skills.
The Lifesaving Society Preschool program gives children a head start in learning how to swim. Many progressions are used to ensure 3 to 5 year olds are comfortable in the water and have fun developing a foundation of water skills.
The Lifesaving Society Swimmer program ensures children know how to swim and develops solid swimming strokes and skills. Targeted Water Smart® drowning prevention messaging develop lifelong attitudes.
The Lifesaving Society Adult program is designed for adults (16 and over) who may be just starting out or wish to further their strokes. Adults set and achieve their goals as well as learn targeted Water Smart® attitudes.
The Lifesaving Society Fitness program is for anyone, of any age, who is looking ot improve their physical fitness and be active for life. Participants set their own goals and use interval training and endurance to complete their workouts.
As an integral part of the Swim for Life® program, Water Smart® education provides information and experiences that helps participants make safe choices when in, on and around water and ice. Water Smart® Education is available to all and focuses on learning and does not include evaluation; participation is all that is required. The Society provides instructors with a variety of tools to make this drowning prevention education last a lifetime.

Streamlined process for training to reduce barriers in employment. The Swim for Life Award Guide, Teaching Swim for Life, core plans, lesson plans and other resources enable instructors to teach effectively on the deck and ensure consistency in standards. Instructors recertify through our professional development credit card system.
Water Smart® education:
Not only is Water Smart® education imbedded in the skills of the Swim for Life® Program, but we provide Water Smart education materials electronically so you can deliver drowning prevention messages in a variety of formats. This means you can reach the whole family, and deliver appropriate information when it’s most relevant according to the time of the year and candidate experiences.
The Lifesaving Society swim program is endorsed by the International Life Saving Federation. The Lifesaving Society represents Canada in the International Lifesaving Federation and the Commonwealth Royal Life Saving Society.
