National Lifeguard Instructor

Successful completion in the National Lifeguard Instructor Course enables candidates to begin teaching the National Lifeguard award under the Mentorship of a Branch approved Mentor. Two successful mentorships are required. Once successful and appointed by the Branch office, the National Lifeguard Instructor may teach & examine/certify candidates in full courses and recertifications.
National Lifeguard Award Examiners may examine NLS candidates in their own courses or other instructor’s NLS candidates. National Lifeguard Examiners may not certify/recertify themselves.

Prerequisites: National Lifeguard award (any option), Lifesaving Instructor (LSI), Bronze Examiner appointment
Course Length: Approximately 20 hours; delivered by Branch only
Candidate Books: National Lifeguard Award Guide, Alert Manual, Canadian Lifesaving Manual, and Instructor Manual
Taught and certified by: National Lifeguard Trainer
Evaluation: This is a pass or fail award.
Award Recognition: Certification card
Expiry Date: Exactly 2 years from the date of certification (i.e. date on certification card)
Recertification: Via Professional development credit system.
