As of September 15, 2009, anyone operating a motorized pleasure craft/recreational boat is required to have a Pleasure Craft Operator (PCO) Card.
The Lifesaving Society Boat Operator Accredited Training™ (BOAT) program is accredited by Canadian Coast Guard/Transport Canada. The BOAT program reflects the standard designed by the Canadian Coast Guard/Transport Canada to establish a common level of understanding of safe boating knowledge required of pleasure craft operators. Successful completion of the BOAT program gives participants the required Pleasure Craft Operator (PCO) Card.
Prerequisite for course: Recommend 16 years and older
Length of the course: 6-8 hours for full course; 2-4 hours for mini-course

Award is current for: Lifetime
Next steps: Boat Instructor
Evaluation: BOAT or Lifesaving Examiner evaluates all items. A 75% on a written exam is required to be successful.
